Welcome to the overhauled Gleichen website. We’ve made some design tweaks, updated the content, and put everything on top of the wonderful ExpressionEngine content management system (CMS). Specifically, we’ve added more businesses to the directory (if your business isn’t there, let us know — listings are free), created a new Services and Utilities page, and brought back the events calendar. Also, since the site is now running on top of a CMS, community members will be able to add news and events themselves. Email Eric for instructions.

It has been three months since the new Gleichen and District Community Association Board of Directors were elected to their positions. They are proud to announce that the following accomplishments have been made during this short period of time.
The new board:
- Re-wrote the Association By-Laws which were over 10 years old.
- Established a membership system, whereby the purchase of a membership is required to run for board positions or to vote in the elections.
- Re-qualified for a casino fundraising event, which had been denied to the prior board. The casino application has been approved for the third quarter of 2010.
- Brought the Community Hall up to minimum fire code by installing functioning emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.
- Created a maintenance committee to organize hall renovations and ongoing maintenance. This committee just installed new steel doors in the south entrance, to replace the old broken ones.
- Held a hall cleanup day.
- Published its first quarterly newsletter.
- Has maintained the hall expenses with income generated by rentals.
Community Hall Cleanup
On May 10, 2008 the Association held a hall cleanup. An exceptional turnout of over 30 people, including the Gleichen Kids Club, took on the giant task of cleaning up quite a few years of clutter. We started at 9:00 am and at first the task was daunting, but the group persevered and the work was completed by mid-afternoon.
The Association provided lunch, which was cooked up by Charlene Daw, the President of the Kids Club.
About six truck loads of garbage later, room was made for storage and an office. We still have a bit more to do, but that will be for another day. We are planning the next round for Saturday, September 13th.
The Association would like to give a standing ovation to all those volunteers who came out to help clean the hall, and also to those who have assisted in other ways.
A special thank you goes to Jim from Strathmore Safety, who donated his time to help bring the hall up to code.
Another special thank you goes to Warwick Industries, who donated the new steel doors that were installed in the South entrance.
Pub Night
On June 14th, the Gleichen and District Community Association will be hosting a Pub Night with Darts Tournament and the music of Rosella and Friends!
The event starts with darts registration at 6:30 pm.
The band will play from 8-11 and for those who don’t want to play darts, there will be cribbage boards and a dance floor set up.
Door prizes and a 50/50 draw will round out the night.
The tickets will be $15 and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Gleichen Library, or by calling Gwen at 734-3034.

Attention all residents of Wheatland County, Strathmore, Rockyford, Hussar and Siksika Nation, The Waters of Wheatland (WOW) wants to hear from YOU about water issues in the region.
WOW is a county wide watershed group with a mandate to promote the environmental sustainability of our water resources through information, demonstration, community participation, and to proactively assess the health of the water and work with local producers, partners, and residents towards the adoption of practices that help preserve water quality and quantity.
We have launched a web-based survey from the Wheatland County website http://www.wheatlandcounty.ca The purpose of this survey is to help us develop educational programs and to provide WOW and the wider community of Wheatland County (communities of Standard, Rockyford, Hussar, Strathmore and Siksika Nation) with a baseline assessment of community knowledge and attitudes regarding water issues and conservation. Results will be posted on the website upon the completion of the project.
By filling out the survey you will automatically be eligible to win a dashboard navigation system!
