Downtown Revitalization
To the Gleichen community:
In January 2007 the first meeting of the Gleichen Community Council took place at the Arena. This is a group that was appointed by Wheatland County to address the concerns of residents who met in the spring of 2006.
Our long term goal is to create a thriving community that will be enjoyed by residents, will attract tourists as well as new residents, and raise the interest of commercial and industrial investors.
We expect our long term goal to be a few years in the making but by taking one step at a time we believe it can be accomplished.
Our first order of business is one that pops up at every meeting: the physical and social problems that exist in the downtown core. It seems that we cannot move on without resolution of this problem.
And so the improvement of downtown is our immediate focus. At the appropriate time, we will move on to develop the downtown core to suit an architectural environment resembling the early 20th century: 1900-1930. This pioneer theme will incorporate Siksika history and culture alongside that of the early white settlers.
These are the members of the council. Feel free to contact any one of them with your ideas and/or concerns.
